Tuskegee ASU Classic

The Tuskegee University Golden Tigers will face Alabama State University on September 2, 2017 in Montgomery. The series will begin in 2017 and will run for four years, all played the first weekend of September, and will be played at ASU Stadium.

The two teams will also play on Sept. 1, 2018, Sept. 7, 2019, and Sept. 5, 2020.

The first football game in Alabama State University’s football program’s history was played in 1901 against Tuskegee in Tuskegee, Alabama. The football series moved to Thanksgiving Day in 1924.

That tradition lasted until 1970 when a debate happened about Tuskegee taking part in the game. The rivalry lasted until 1985.

In 1986 and 1987, Tuskegee did not participate in the Turkey Day Classic.

In 1988 and 1990, the Golden Tigers returned, but then in 1991 and 1992 did not participate once again. That rivalry was reclaimed in 1993 and lasted until Turkey Day Classic 2012 at the new ASU stadium.

Tuskegee has a 61-34-4 lead in the series. Since 2006, the Golden Tigers are 5-2 against Alabama State.

Tuskegee Labor Day Classic -Home and Home Series
Tuskegee and Alabama State play in one of the best football rivalries in the entire United States. The September 2, 2017 match-up is the 100th all-time meeting between Tuskegee and Alabama State.

This football game has been known by a number of different names over the years including: Dixie Classic, Turkey Day Classic and now the Labor Day Classic. What ever the name or game day date…Tuskegee and Alabama State are true rivals and friends.
This football game is an economic partnership between the two universities. It is also an economic benefit for the cities and counties that host this event. Yet, this event is always hosted in Montgomery County and the City of Montgomery. Macon County and the City of Tuskegee does not host this great event.

It is time to start planning to finally bring this game to Tuskegee and Macon County on the Tuskegee campus….let us finally share the excitement on our home turf. Let ASU students, alumni and friends come to see what SKEGEE is about. The history and the culture. We have a lot to share with the fans.

Join the effort to help bring this game finally to Tuskegee University, the City of Tuskegee and Macon County. It’s almost 2018….and more than 100 years after Tuskegee first competed against Alabama State in football in 1901.

It will time to make this a Home and Home football classic. It will take lots of planning and it wont be simple. The stadium’s conditions are well known. But, it can be done with what we know and call the Tuskegee Spirit.
